Leaving Crackle on October 1, 2019

Is anyone terribly surprised that out of the 380 movies Crackle told us were leaving in October… all 197 of those identified with an * are still there as of October 1?

Is it unusual for Crackle to turn over so many of its films at once?

Crackle’s recent history regarding expirations has been rather spotty. For a while they were listing just about all of their titles as expiring, then come the first of the month the overwhelming majority of them would still be on the site (or, to give them the benefit of the doubt and phrase it more charitably, “were renewed”). Then for a couple of months, they would list a smaller number of titles as expiring — from 20+ to 30+ to, in one case, 100+ — and sure enough, come the first those titles were gone. Now it’s as if the guy who used to post all the expirations has come back from vacation or something. I still feel you have to take these expiration dates seriously because (1) maybe this is the month they decide to indeed purge all these titles from their system and (2) even if only some of the listed titles do actually expire, there’s no way of telling if they’re the movies you most wanted not to miss.

Thanks for the insight on Crackle and especially for listing additions/expirations on your site – I reference it often.
